- Minimax’s new Hailuo 02 AI Video Model has given rise to a viral trend with cats performing Olympic dives
- The videos blend advanced physics -based animation with internet absurdity
- Although not the quality of Google VEO 3, Hailuo 2 quickly wins in popularity among relaxed AI users
When I saw the cat walking on the diving board, I could imagine calls to the fire department or a huge amount that rushed to save it, causing a disaster while the cat simply flashed to the tragedy. Instead, the cat executed a triple somersault in Olympic caliber in the pool. If it wasn’t for the impossible achievement and my awareness that it was an AI-generated video, I would check to see if there was a freaky Friday situation with the US swimming team.
Instead, it’s a huge viral video produced using Chinese AI video developer Minimax’s Hailuo 02 model. The millions of people watching the video of cat diving may not be real, but it’s real enough to elbow into the competition for AI -Video -Dominance with Google Veo 3 and Openais Sora, among many others.
Minimax debuted Hailuo 02 earlier this summer, but the virality of the Faux Olympic video suggests that it will be a very popular tool for making stills or text recordings for videos. The model produces only five to ten seconds of clips for now, but its movement adjustment, camera effects and impressive imitation of the real world physics, such as the movement of fur or spray of water, make it more exciting.
Testing Hailuo 02 on cat diving seemed to be organic when X -User RB keeper (presumably not their real name) tried a prompt they had seen tested on VEO 3.

Hailuo 02 uses frame-for-frame-physics simulation, attention-carded movement prompt and multimodal input-parsing. In other words, if you write a strange idea, the model will do its best to make it look and behave as it would in an approximation of the real world.
In particular, Hailuo 02 is reportedly far cheaper and faster than VEO 3, but perhaps without a completely high-end gloss. Still, it is more accessible and is not limited to business services and beta programs such as VEO 3.
Cathedral videos are the top of a very specific friend diagram of internet trends, available tools and make efforts fun. You don’t have to be a professional editor or own a supercomputer to try it. And more upgrades are on the horizon. Minimax has outlined plans to integrate synchronized audio, lighting and texture control as well as longer clips.
As for Google Veo 3 and other major players, they have their professional niche for now. But if they want to expand their appeal to the masses, they can look at what minimax and smaller developers like Midjourney, with their V1 video model, do. Hailuo 02 is the kind of tool that causes people the cats to dive in.
