Peshawar: Shakeel Ahmad Khan, the older brother of the former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer and ex-senator Mushhmad Ahmad Khan, was shot dead outside his home in Swabi, police said Sunday.
Mushtaq expressed grief over the tragic incident and said his older brother had been shut down in front of their home and described him as his strength and support. He further condemned the attack and called it the worst barbarism.
By giving details of the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) said Swabi Muhammad Azhar that Shakeel had been killed while trying to convey a violent dispute.
According to police staff, Shakeel was mortally shot by a neighbor during a violent quarrel. He said the incident took place when a dispute broke out between a father and son in the neighborhood.
“Shakeel Khan would convey and resolve the conflict when the suspect identified as Kamran opened fire. Before that, Kamran had allegedly killed his own father, ”DPO added.
The firing also left a person injured. The police officer also said that Kamran is reportedly a drug addict and has an unstable mental state.
DPO Azhar assured that the suspected arrest would soon be secured and that justice would be served.
The murder of Shakeel Khan has given rise to widespread condemnation from political leaders and government officials.
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman expressed grief over the murder and called on the government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
KP Minister of Chief Ali Amin Gandapur also condemned the incident. By expressing his compassion for Senator Mushtaq, the provincial CEO asked for the forgiveness of the deceased and patience for the affected family.
Gandapur referred to the murder of Shakeel Khan as tragic and promised that the perpetrator would soon be brought to justice. He assured himself that the culprit would receive a strict punishment under the law.
Meanwhile, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi convened a detailed report on the murder and instructed authorities to secure Swift Justice. He assured himself that the government was standing with Mushtaq Ahmad in this difficult time.
Shakeel’s funeral prayer is scheduled for 5 p.m. 15 today in Ahad Khan, Swabi District, according to Mushtaq.
