- Former Microsoft performing Peter Moore has said that if Xbox hadn’t spent so much time and money on repairing the Xbox 360 consoles, “I’m not sure the Xbox mark would be today”
- Moore called it a “defining moment” for the business
- He also thinks that if Xbox fell, the gaming industry would have a little
Former Microsoft Peter Moore believes the Xbox brand may not be today if the company had not focused on repairing countless Xbox 360 consoles.
In an interview with the gaming industry, Moore suggested that the company be in hot water and tried to figure out how to fix the Xbox 360’s “Red Ring of Death” but decided that spending $ 1.15 billion on repairs is what ultimately saved its future.
“It took us a while to find out what was going on,” said Moore (thank you, Games radar). “Was the fans in the right place? […] Trying to find out if you know, […] Wrapping the towel around it would create more heat, which would go along with some of the problems with the cracks in some of the devices. All this was going on and it was stressful. But the one thing I will always say is, you know this was, for us, a defining moment.
“If we hadn’t done what we did, I’m not sure the Xbox mark would be today.”
Moore continued and said, “We felt it was money that was well used to hang on a fire that we built, that we felt we had huge viability in the future – and of course it does,” he said. “And do good of the players.”
However, Moore believes that if the Xbox had fallen, the gaming industry as a whole would have suffered.
“Rising Tide lifts all ships. Microsoft’s entry into the market created a massively rising tide,” he said. “They put billions of dollars in marketing, advertising, F&U, and I don’t think the industry would be somewhere close to what it is today if Microsoft wasn’t involved.”
In other news, Microsoft recently made significant cuts in his gaming department, dismissed 9,000 employees and canceled several projects such as Perfectly dark Reboot, Everwildand an unannounced mmo from Elder rolls online Developer.
