- Apple TV+’s Foundation has reportedly found a new showrunner
- Fear The Walking Dead Showrunner Ian Goldberg has reportedly been hired to replace David Gyer
- The big budget-sci-fi series also gets a fourth season, apparently
Apple has allegedly hired a new showrunner to his criticism -acclaimed Foundation TV show – and secretly green -lit one fourth season.
Per deadline, the tech giant has secured the services of Ian Goldberg, whose previous credits include Helming Seasons 4 to 8 of Fear The Walking Dead. A big budget and often times narratively complex sci-fi series is far from Goldberg’s work on the dystopian horror-spin-off of AMC’s popular The Walking Dead TV adaptation. However, Goldberg has written manuscripts for other sci-fi shows including Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and KryptonSo the genre won’t be stranger to him.
Goldberg’s rumor of hiring comes exactly one year (ie February 26, 2024) after reports emerged that it Foundation had lost his former showrunner/performer David S. Gyer. It is said that the American filmmaker has collided with Apple TV+ leaders over the budget for Foundation Season 3, currently in its post -production phase. Goyer is assumed to have gone back from his tasks after these seemingly excited conversations, with Bill Bost being asked to oversee the rest of Season 3’s long shooting plan.
Goldberg’s installation as the series’ new showrunner is not the only new, ERM, news that Deadline reported. The American Sales also claim that Foundation has been internally renewed to a fourth season and that a writer’s space has already been gathered by Goldberg to start work on his manuscript.
I reached out to Apple to comment on Goldberg’s hiring and the Season 4 renewal of the series, but had not received a response at the time of publication. I’ll update this article if I hear back.
Lay the foundation of a brighter future
It is an understatement to say that one of the best Apple TV+ exhibitions has run for development problems since its excellent second season was sent in 2023 (read my Foundation Season 2 review to find out why I liked it so much).
Two months after Foundation‘s renewal of season 3 in December 2023, reports reported to emerge that its role and crew faced an annoying film delay in the midst of several development problems with its third season. Main photography had already started before these problems arose, but the Hollywood strikes in 2023 and mentioned the budget was blamed when the most important guilty of the attitude last February last year.
Film recording restarted Foundation Season 3 on February 19, 2024, but its problems did not end there. Despite the departure of Goyer, the loss of Mikael Persbrandt, who had been thrown as mules, is an incredibly important and dangerous antagonist in Isaac Asimovs Foundation Book series, causing additional problems. Game of Thrones‘Pilou Asbaek was hired to play the mule after a season 3-role herd last March.
Fortunately, it does not appear that there have been other significant problems that have hampered season 3’s development. As long as its post -production phase continues to run as smooth as possible, it is likely that it Foundation‘s next chapter will debut on one of the world’s best streaming services before 2025 ends.
