Foundation Season 3 Episode 3 has landed on Apple TV+ – and it introduces a character that seems intended to play an important role in this season’s biggest story twist.
This season’s latest post, entitled ‘When a Book Finds You’, he sees Pritcher (Brandon P Bell) with Toran and Bayta Mallow (Cody Fern and Synn Karlsen) attend a lavish party thrown by Mule at Kalgan. Remember: Pritcher asked the newlyweds Mallows to accompany him as he goes undercover to try to learn more about Foundation Season 3’s primary villain, and it is under this soiree that we finally meet the person I refer to.
Full spoilers immediately follow for Foundation Season 3’s latest episode and Isaac Asimov’s book serieswhich the Apple TV original is based on. Return now if you haven’t streamed it yet.
Magnifico Giganitcus, a musician who works for Mule (Pilou Asbaek) – apparently against his will, considering how the mule treats him – and who is portrayed by Tómas Lemarquis, is the character we introduced to. Viewers can recognize Lemarquis from Caliban in X-Men: ApocalypseThe third item in the 20th century Fox’s now closed down X-Men restart film franchise.
Despite the fact that he is treated unfairly (read: physically abused) by the mule in FoundationMagnifico is an important part of the former inner circle. In fact, Magnifico’s music not only keeps the mules calm, but also has an emotionally intoxicating effect on people who are not used to hearing it. We see just as much in this season’s third episode, with several people hypnotized by his electronic beats on the dance floor.
Either way, Long Story Short: Magnifico flees from Kalgan with Toran and Bayta after the latter convinces him to leave them. The couple believes they can learn more information about Mule from Magnifico, which can help the foundation of its attempt to prevent the mule from becoming Galaxy’s new tyrann.

But everything is not what it seems because Magnifico is not a real person, nor is he someone who actively wants to help the foundation.
In ‘Foundation and Empire’, the second novel in Asimov’s original ‘Foundation’ book trilogy, it is eventually revealed that Magnifico is mule in disguise. In fact, it’s all a facade so that the mule can learn the location of the second foundation, also known as the secret collective about mentalics – essentially people with mental abilities such as Mule – it’s led (in one of the best Apple TV+ shows, anyway) by Gaal Dornick.
Foundation‘s TV adaptation looks like it’s a bit fine -tuned this story, where Magnifico is probably a kind of holographic projection created by Mule. In this way, the psionic warlord can be two places at once, with Asbaek playing Mule and Lemarquis, which tackles Magnifico’s role.
If Apple’s live-action reimagining follows the rest of this story as it is outlined in Asimov’s literary works, The Magnifico actually reveals the mole of a huge shocking moment for anyone who sees the show but has not read the books. It would be if I hadn’t just spoiled it – but hey, it’s your fault to read an article that warned you that there were big spoilers ahead!
We’ll see if Mule and Magnifico are the same as the Technology Giant’s space opera progresses. In the meantime, read more exclusive season 3 coverage below.
