Intermittent rain in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the past five days has resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries, according to a report by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The report released Monday revealed that four people – their men and a woman – lost their lives in accidents caused by the rain, while nine others, including four children and three women, were injured.
The heavy rainfall affected several districts, including Haripur, Battagtram, Bajaur, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Dir, Hangu, Khyber and Torghar. The report also mentioned that 14 houses were damaged by the rain, with 10 partially damaged and three completely destroyed.
PDMA has instructed district administrations to provide immediate relief to the affected families and ensure proper medical treatment of the wounded. In addition, the authorities have been invited to take all the necessary measures to open highways that were blocked due to rain and snowfall.
This rainwave follows warnings issued by Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority last week about a strong Western wave that is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms and snowfall to the top parts of the country from February 24 to March. 1.
The rain comes after a month long drought that affected crops, such as wheat and potatoes, which are important for food security and agricultural economy in Pakistan.
