French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday announced a significant investment in artificial intelligence (AI) ahead of a two-day summit in Paris, AFP reported.
With host with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the event aims to tackle the global AI management, ethics, accessibility and European sovereignty over AI technologies.
Macron revealed that France would receive 109 billion euros ($ 113 billion) from international investors, including UAE, large US and Canadian investment funds, and French companies marking a key movement in strengthening the country’s AI infrastructure.
Macron’s message mirrors the extent of US AI investment, with $ 500 billion “Stargate” project supported by Openai in the United States.
He also highlighted the importance of the investment and noted that it corresponds to the extent of the US initiative aimed at developing data centers and calculating infrastructure needed to promote AI technology.
Developments are coming at a time when the technical barriers to AI progress are becoming more visible, especially after Chinese start-up Deepseek stunned Silicon Valley with its high-performance AI models.
The Paris Summit will include discussions from 1,500 participants, including international investors, heads of state and prominent technical figures such as Openais Sam Altman and Mistralais Arthur Mensch. The purpose of the event is to explore AI’s potential with a strong focus on balancing its benefits and challenges.
One of the central topics at the summit is the development of data centers that is important for AI’s future. Mistralai announced plans to invest billions of euros to build a data center in France for the purpose of controlling the entire AI value chain from software to hardware. France’s nuclear power plants make it an attractive place for these high -energy operations.
Global AI management and public interest are approaching
While the investment news is stealing the limelight, there are also efforts to ensure that AI development serves public interests. A new initiative, “Current AI”, will receive $ 400 million from a consortium of countries, businesses and philanthropic organizations.
This partnership aims to provide open source tools and data to developers that promote an ethical approach to AI development. Political leaders gather Tuesday to discuss AI government, even though they reach a consensus between different regions such as the EU, US, China and India may prove to be challenging.
