- Avengers: Doomsday will apparently include more MCU heroes than expected
- Leaked images indicate that two unannounced stars are part of its ensemble
- If true, that would take Doomsday’s roster to 29
A fresh one Avengers: Doomsday leak seems to have confirmed that two more Marvel heroes will appear in the highly anticipated comic book movie.
Promotional images for the Marvel Phase 6 movie that look like they’ve been snapped for a glossy magazine cover dropped yesterday (November 18) after an unknown source leaked them online. Considering two of the photographs show characters that were not part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s first 27-member cast reveal in March, the images all but confirm that these individuals will have a role to play in the Multiverse Saga’s penultimate film.
Potentially major spoilers immediately follow Avengers: Doomsday. Don’t continue if you don’t want to know what other actors the movie could have!
The images, which have been shared across X/Twitter, Reddit and the ResetEra forums, appear to confirm long-standing rumors that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange are part of the deal.
As I mentioned earlier, none of the actors were announced as part of Doomsday‘s original list earlier this year. Larson and Cumberbatch’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters also don’t have solo films coming out in 2026. The fact that they were snapped professionally for what appears to be a multi-page feature article strongly suggests that they will appear in the next Avengers film.
What makes this leak even more fascinating is that Larson and Cumberbatch have refused to comment and/or initially denied their involvement in Doomsday.
In January, Cumberbatch revealed that he would not be joining Doomsday. And while he went back on that answer a few days later (per Business Insider) to say that he was part of its ensemble, some fans believed that Cumberbatch was toying with them over his potential appearance.
Meanwhile, on an October 2025 edition of The View, Larson responded to a query about her possible participation in Avengers 5and said, “Thank you for asking, and you know I cannot answer.”
Two weeks later, however, Larson set tongues wagging when, while casting her vote in the 2025 New York mayoral race, she told fans on Instagram to “ignore the wig!” (thanks to r/MarvelStudios for the screenshot). According to some, Larson’s hair piece hair to be the one she sports when she plays Captain Marvel, otherwise there would be no reason to cover her head.
If — and without confirmation from Disney and/or Marvel, it’s still an if — the duo is in Doomsdayit raises a big question about the film. Having said that, how on earth will you Avengers 5 juggling its now 29-strong cast and making sure each person gets enough screen time?
That’s before you consider the prospect that one of 2026’s most exciting new movies will actually also feature 31 characters. With a former Spider-Man and major villain also rumored to appear in Avengers: Doomsdayis more and more likely that Marvel’s next team-up film will be overcrowded with characters – and in the end, I hope it’s not to the detriment of the film.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. For more on the upcoming film, check out everything we know so far about Avengers: Doomsday.
