- Biwin reveals Mini SSD offering 512 GB, 1 TB and 2TB in a small footprint
- Mini SSD reads at 3,700 MB/s and writes at 3,400 MB/s using PCIe 4×2
- The device is less than a US crown but competes with traditional M.2 drives in speed
Chinese warehouse company Biwin has revealed a new warehouse format called “Mini SSD”, designed for laptops, tablets, phones and cameras.
On only 15 x 17 mm and 1.4 mm thick it is less than an American crown, while it offers storage options of 512 GB, 1 TB and 2TB.
Biwin claims sequential reading speeds of 3,700 MB/s with writing 3,400 MB/s over a PCIe 4×2 connection, making Mini SSD a challenger to traditional M.2 drive.

To contextualize its performance, a standard MicroSD Express card that is compatible with devices such as Nintendo Switch 2 is on a theoretical 985MB/s.
Full-size SD Express card can reach 3,940MB/s, almost match mini SSD, but on almost twice as large.
M.2 drives remain faster, with 2230 variants approaching 8,000 MB/s and 2280 models reaching up to 14,000 MB/s.
The Mini SSD is also compared to Nano-SIM cards, which is smaller, but designed for communication rather than storage.
While Biwin’s creation is compact, it does not appear to be a universal standard, leaving questions about wider adoption.
Mini SSD has a dedicated slot that acts as a smartphone -Sim tray -users can remove the storage by inserting a pin that can simplify swaps and upgrades to certain devices.
This device supports the IP68 water and dust resistance along with the ability to survive three meters of drops.
Two new Chinese games -Arable computers have already incorporated the Mini SSD -GPD win 5, known for its large battery and Strix Halo -Chip, and Onenetbooks OnexPlayer Super X Hybrid Laptop/Tablet has both dedicated slots for Mini SSD.
Although these devices have been announced, none of them have revealed pricing or other commercial product listings.
While traditional M.2 drives still surpass the Mini SSD at raw speed, the new format offers a balance between size and performance that can appeal to mobile users.
Its compact dimensions combined with quick read and writing speeds place it as a challenger for the largest SSD capacities in a minimal footprint.
For users looking for a practical portable solution, the Mini SSD could be considered among the best external SSD settings in its category.
Its very small size also means that users have to deal with the device with care as it can easily be placed incorrectly.
