- Apple claims it is to “make good progress” on its upcoming SIRI features
- But many forums are crowded with positions from frustrated Siri users
- Cook says Siris upgraded features come at one point in 2026
It’s no secret that Apple’s Siri Voice Assistant is behind his rivals, and that idea was reinforced by Apple’s inability to deliver his Siri promises from the summer of 2024, with its most interesting new ideas still nowhere to see a year later. Still, this situation does not seem to embarrass Apple CEO Tim Cook, which says the company “makes good progress with a more personal Siri” (via macumors).
The message came under Apple’s recent earnings call, in which Cook explained that he expects the new SIRI features – added to Apple Intelligence – should be available “next year.” It’s something Apple has said before, but it probably won’t place users who are impatient waiting for improvements to the virtual helper.
In fact, you can see that playing on forums and communities all over the internet. For example, Siri Subbreddit is full of positions that decrease the state of Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) helps. Browse it today and you will find post entitled “Siri is a complete disappointment,” “Okay, Siri can’t even set timers anymore,” and “Siri is not Siri anymore.” It gives pretty gloomy reading and it seems to have gotten worse in recent months.
While Siri Wowed the world when it was launched in 2011, it was quickly overtaken by its rivals – even before AI assistants like Chatgpt came along. With the advent of AI, Siri’s weaknesses have been relaxed, causing Apple to crawl to upgrade it. Unfortunately, we still have not seen the results of this work, and although Tim Cook may seem optimistic, users are clearly annoyed.
Slow progress
Right now, Siri can perform a few basic tasks for you, such as setting timers and telling you the weather forecast. For more advanced requests, it can hand over to Chatgpt, but it just goes to highlight its own limitations on comparison.
To put it right, Apple is working on a few new features, as it revealed on its WWDC 2024 back in June 2024. Back then, Apple said Siri would soon come up with better awareness of the screen, an understanding of your own personal context and powerful tools for performing actions within apps.
But in March 2025, Apple Pundit John Gruber told us that “it will take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features,” with the company and added that it would roll out “in the coming year.” While there was some hope that it would mean that the features would arrive later in 2025, Apple confirmed on WWDC 2025 that it is aiming for a 2026 launch.
Given how lacking many of Siri’s features feel compared to its competitors, it can feel like a long wait. Tim Cook may be sanguine over Siri’s views, but if Reddit posts are something to pass by, it may take more to place some increasingly annoyed Apple fans.
