ISLAMABAD:

The government has assured its coalition partners that oil prices will be reduced once the prevailing situation normalizes, offering some relief amid rising fuel costs and growing financial pressure on consumers across the country.

The assurance came during a joint parliamentary party meeting of the ruling alliance held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, where key coalition leaders were taken into confidence over the recent price adjustments.

According to officials, the ministers told participants that the rise in oil prices was driven by extraordinary circumstances, while stressing that steps would be taken to pass on emergency aid as soon as conditions improve.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other allied parties.

Those present in the meeting included Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, along with several senior legislators.

During the session, the finance and oil ministers briefed the parliamentary leaders on the current situation and outlined the measures taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and manage the impact of external pressures on the domestic market.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the coalition partners expressed confidence in the federal government’s policy and supported its handling of the situation.

Chaudhry added that additional measures related to petroleum prices were also discussed, with the ministers reiterating their commitment to ease the burden on consumers at the earliest.

The meeting also reviewed contingency planning and coordination among coalition partners to respond to changing economic conditions with an emphasis on maintaining stability and public confidence.

Participants emphasized the importance of a unified policy approach to addressing economic challenges, while supporting measures aimed at stabilizing prices and ensuring consistent supply chains.

Officials have maintained that once the situation returns to normal, the government will move to reduce oil prices, signaling a potential rebound in fuel costs if external pressures ease.
