Fujifilm has launched the latest model in his Instax Instant Camera Range. The Instax Mini 41 is a sequel of the 2022-released Instax Mini 40, with a similar price, shape and size-but fujifilm has a number of remarkable improvements to this new addition to the series, making it a very tempting purchase during the summer.
The first improvement is with the overall styling and aesthetics. It’s a subjective I know, but I find that Mini 41’s slim modern appears to be much more interesting than the strictly retro design of Mini 40. There are hints of vintage cameras in the mini 41’s proportions and colors, but the gun -gray finish, curved body, fine textured grip material and orange accents feel fresh and fully.
Despite the appearance, the body is made of light plastic. It is only 12.2 OZ / 345 GI weight (without batteries or films) and 104.5 x 122.5 x 67.5 mm in size, making it ideal for taking day trips and nights out.
An end to wiped out highlights?
The other improvements are perhaps more interesting for photography fans, as they should result in better quality shots compared to the Mini 40. First and foremost, the Instax Mini 41’s new automatic exposure function is optimizing shutter speed and flash production to compensate for surrounding light. I have often found that the cheaper Instax cameras like this tend to underpire or overexpose images where flash often blasts highlights in close-ups. This should solve it.
And when we talk about close-ups, the other major improvement is parallax correction, which helps center people who are shot near the lens-a position where the centering of them in the viewfinder would normally result in an off-center photo.
So with better design and better photos that are easier to compose, the Mini 41 looks like a huge glare on its predecessor, and all at the reasonably low price of £ 94.99 in England. An American award has not yet been announced, perhaps because of Fujifilm, which assesses the ongoing situation with US tariffs before committing to a price. A protective case is also available for £ 20.99.
Of course, you will have to buy the Instax Mini movie to use with the camera. These are available in different types, including monochrome and with different frame tiles, and cost about $ 16 / £ 14.99 for a package of 20 exposures.
