- New leaks have given us our first glimpse of Fujifilm ‘X-half’
- The semi -frame compact camera would be a first one for fujifilm
- It will apparently combine digital half-frame images with a retro design
Fujifilm has never exactly followed the flock, but even to its standards, the company’s next compact camera will be an eccentric-if new rumors of the so-called ‘X-half’ must believe.
Fuji rumors recently shared what it claims is the first leaked image of the camera, and has now followed it up with a new post giving it a name. It seems that the x-half will be a compact camera with a 1-inch sensor competing with the many half-frame cameras that have become popular among young snappers in recent years.
What is semi -frame? Like Pentax 17 and Kodak Ektar H35 shows, it sees format – traditionally found on 35 mm movie cameras – watch shots taken in vertical format, which effectively gives you twice as many photos from a roller a movie. According to rumors, the x-half is that it will be digital and potentially a little more desirable than these two cameras.

Another reason why semi-frame cameras are popular is because they easily let you create ‘Diptych’ images or two frames side by side. This allows you to compile two different angles on the same topic, which is a very social media -friendly trick. To help you compose these shots, Fuji Rumors claims that the X-half will have a vertical LCD on the back panel.
Like Fujifilm’s other great Hits-Især Fujifilm X100VI will X-half apparently again mix digital convenience with film-like charm. The leaked specifications include an optical viewfinder (which should keep the price down, compared to an EVF), a retro, Leica-like design and a few manual controls including an exposure compensation disc. Apparently, it also has a fixed lens with a f/2.4 aperture.
Unfortunately, there is no rumor released date for the x-half yet. But with speculation on the climb, it seems that Fujifilm could launch it in time for the summer seasons in the US and UK-predicted that customs-related complications do not derail it.
Analysis: A fun idea if not for the hardcore fuji faithful
With many Fujifilm fans who patiently wait for more ‘serious’ cameras, like an X-Pro 4, these X-half rumors are probably not what many have been waiting for-but I’m glad to see something new on the horizon.
After all, while the idea of a digital half-frame camera seems strange on paper-you don’t, after all, not worry about saving movie costs with digital-X half could definitely find an audience among those who want a retro sidekick that is different from their smartphones, but easier to use than the best movie cameras.
In that sense, it is likely to have more in common with Fujifilm’s Instax series than more expensive Pro models such as GFX100RF. If it’s Fujifilm’s next launch, you could see it as the perfect flip page for the latter, which is an intermediate state power center that costs $ 4,899 / £ 4,699 / AU $ 8,799. Instead, the x-half could be a compact that caters to a new, younger audience who wants something with a little more fabric than an instax.
It may leave Fuji fans sitting in between these two extremes that feel a little non-beloved, but a Fujifilm X-E5 is still on its way in 2025. For now, it seems that Fujifilm is doing what originally brought it so much success in the early days of mirror-free camera-to jump on new photographic trends with its own unique turn.
