Gandapur expressions Kalabagh Dam ‘Essential for the State’

Islamabad:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said on Monday that the construction of the Kalabagh dam was ‘important to the state’ and called for concern about the controversial project to be treated through dialogue.

In a speech with journalists after a party meeting in KP House in Islamabad, Gandapur accused the absence of large dams for the destruction caused by rain and flooding.

“We are afraid of even naming some dams. The Kalabagh dam is needed for the state, and if there is reservations, they must be treated through conversations,” he said. “We are ready to contribute our share in its construction, and other provinces should also play their role so that the project can be realized.”

The Minister of Ministry admitted that delays in the building of dams had led to the disasters. He said his provincial government took independent steps after completing six dams last year, including Gomal, reducing flood loss.

“We construct dams in different districts to minimize risks in the future,” he added. Gandapur said a new Jabba dam was built to protect Peshawar while a Budhni protective wall was erected to protect the city from flooding.

He also approached the recent flash floods in buns and said they were the result of a cloudburst and not deforestation. “Cloudbursts occur due to increasing heat in the atmosphere and can happen anywhere. To block cliffs carried by floods, Net is installed on the Swiss model,” he said.
