“These life -changing injuries account for a quarter of all reported injuries, a total of over 167,300 people injured since October 2023,” said Rik Peeperkorn, a representative in the West Bank and Gaza.
Over 5,000 people have been exposed to amputation and other serious weapons, legs and spinal cord injuries.
Briefing of journalists in New York with video link from Gaza, Dr. Peepercorn detailed widespread trauma needs, adding that dozens of rehabilitation workers have been killed, with facilities close to collapse.
“Currently Less than 14 of Gazas 36 hospitals remain partially functionalWhile less than a third of the rehabilitation services before conflict work, with multiple overhanging closure, ”he said.
Pregnant and caught
Maternity and birth services in the war -skinned enclave have also been severely affected.
UN’s reproductive health agency, UNFPA, estimates that 55,000 pregnant women are caught in gazaWarring with displacement, bombardment, severe hunger and malnutrition.

Estimates indicate every week in Gaza, at least 15 women give birth outside a health facility without skilled help and around One in five newborns are born prematurely or suffer low birth weight.

“When you see a large number of mothers with newborns in corridors, hospitals are simply overloaded because of the destruction of health care.”
Deep psychological impact
Conflict -related injuries also carry deep psychological scars.
“Survivors are struggling with traumaLosses and daily survival, where psychosocial referral services remain scarce, ”said Dr. Peeperkorn, calling for investment in rehabilitation related to mental health and disability-inclusion care.
The urgent need for fuel, medical supplies, prosthetics and aids was emphasized along with the protection of health workers. Medical evacuation is another priority.
More than 15,000 people, including 3,800 children, need special treatment outside Gaza.
“We need many more countries to accept patientsAnd the restoration of the West Bank and the East Jerusalem referral path, ”said Dr. Peeperkorn.
Offsets continue
Meanwhile, humanitarian officials highlighted the broader crisis that civilians are facing nowhere to go.
UN spokesman Farhan Haq said more than 6,700 people fled Northern Gaza to the south within a 10-hour period on Wednesday alone, adding to over 417,000 shifts since mid-August.
“Families in southern Gaza are pressed into these and other crowded shelters or provisional tents along the coast. Many others sleep outdoors, often in the middle of rubble,” he told Daily News Briefing in New York.
“New arrivals in South are facing poor sanitation, no privacy or security and a high risk of children being separated from their families – all while exposed to explosive ordnance.”
