“The only focus of the Coa is the strength and stability of Pakistan, nothing else,” the Minister of the Interior repeated.

Earlier this year, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in May formally transferred rank as a field marshal on Coas -General Syed Asim Munir.

The federal cabinet approved the promotion at a high -level meeting that was chairman of the Prime Minister, where the ministers paid tribute to the operational success of Operation Bunyanum Mursoos. The operation was described as a historic military victory that rejected Indian aggression and ensured the sovereignty of the country. Field Marshal Munir also praised the political leadership for their “strategic foresight” during Operation Marka-in-Haq.

FM Munir is the country’s other army officer being promoted to Field Marshal since 1947, since independence. Former army chief and military dictator Gen Ayub Khan was awarded rank in 1959.

Shortly after, in Washington, US President Donald Trump said he was “honored” to meet FM Munir during a rare meeting of the White House and credited him to play a key role in stopping the conflict between Pakistan and India.
