Balochistan National Party-Mengal (GDP-M) announced on Wednesday the end of his 20-day sit-in-protest at Lak Pass, Mastung, who had been staged against the arrests of Baloch rights activists, including the Baloch YakjeTi Committee (BYC) leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch.

GDP-M chief Akhtar Mengal, who addresses supporters, said the protest was interrupted to avoid further disturbance to the public, especially due to road closures affecting critical trading and transport relations, reported Express News.

The party will now hold rallies in various districts instead of Balochistan, Mengal said, adding that GDP-MS Central Committee will meet in Quetta on April 18 to end her strategy.

Sit-in began after detention of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and 16 other people during a protest camp in Quetta.

Days earlier, the group had accused law enforcement of killing three of their followers.

BYC member Sammi Deen Baloch was also arrested during related demonstrations in Karachi, but was later released.

The protest had severely disturbed trade in Quetta-Karachi and Quetta-Taftan motorways blocked, leaving over 1,200 cargo vehicles, including LPG tankers, stranded at the Pak-IRAN border.

Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) estimated daily financial losses in millions.

Earlier this week, the GDP-M convened an all parties conference in Quetta, where nine decisions were adopted.

The statement called for enforcement of constitutional rights associated with Balochistan’s accession instrument and called on a national dialogue to tackle many years of complaints.

Despite the fact that it ended sit-in, Mengal promised that the party would not give up its demands for justice and accountability.
