- Google launches a new gemini for home assistant
- It replaces Google Assistant and will be available on most current devices
- You can sign up for early access in the Google Home app now
Google Home Tech finally gets a long-awaited gemini makeover with new AI-driven, conversation talents and the good news is that you may not need to buy new gadgets to get it.
Google says Gemini for the home comes to “Each speaker, smart display, camera and doorbells we’ve made in the last decade” (roll down the full list). Not all of these products get the exact same experience – for example, some do not get the full Gemini Live experience – but it is still an impressive amount of historical support, in theory.
So what’s new? Google promises that Gemini until home will offer a more natural, conversation experience. In fact, it poured cold water on the old Google Assistant experience in the process and said “the interaction was functional, not intuitive or natural”.
Google added that “it was a transaction tool, not a partner”. Don’t dry your feet on the way out, Google Assistant.
This means that we get the choice of 10 new votes with improved stimulation and intonation, all of which have access to real -time info. The biggest advantage will be an understanding of context, which should mean an end to today’s more staccato exchanges.
Asking Gemini to perform tasks such as adding things to your shopping list should also be less cumbersome. For example, Google says you could ask “Hey Google, add ingredients to Pad Thai to my shopping” instead of breaking it down, or “Hello Google, I’m cooking, you can turn on the lights” and it will only know to turn on the kitchen lights.
There will also be an opportunity to chat without the need for hotword. Gemini Live is a more chatgpt-like experience with an open conversation. To start it you just want to say, “Hi Google let’s chat.” Unfortunately, the practical extra feature needs a Google Home Premium subscription.
How to sign up for
Google says it starts a “early access to” to current Google Home devices from this month. It starts with cameras and door bells, with speakers and smart screens that are expected to start rolling out at the end of October.
We should definitely expect some bugs and shocks in the way in this early stage. Google says it wants to use the period to get feedback from early adoptors “when we work to perfect the experience”.
Still, if you want to be among the early testers, it is possible to express your interest today. Google says you simply need:
- Open Google Home App (You need Version 4.0 or higher).
- Click yours Profile icon In the upper right corner.
- Press Home settings.
- Scroll down and Select the “Early Access” setting to participate.
- You will notified in the app As soon as it’s ready to try.
With Google, which also launches the new Google Home app to help take advantage of these new features, there are plenty of new toys for Smart Home fans to look forward to.
Of course, you have to pay for some of the best, with two new levels of Google Home Premium, which also arrives today (to replace Nest Aware). But the long-awaited AI upgrade that our smart home has shouted is finally on the horizon.
