Geno Auriemma shares what he told Paige Bueckers in emotional hug

Paige Bueckers is finally a master.

After making every last four of her famous careers, but never reached the mountain top, her last game ended on Uconn with a national title.

Huskies won their 12th title on Sunday with an 82-59 win over the reigning champion South Carolina Gamecocks.

It’s Uconn’s first title since 2015, ending their longest drought since they won their first title in 1995.

BUeckers were taken out of the game by 1:32 to go in the game and she couldn’t hold her feelings as she shared a long hug with head coach Geno Auriemma.

Auriemma was asked by ESPN after the game what he said to his star player, and he held it simple while holding back tears.

“I love you,” he said. “That’s all you can say.”

Bueckers were later asked what she said back to her coach.

“I told him I hate him,” she joked.

It has been a roller coaster for BUECKERS, whose career 19.9 points per Fight is mostly in the Uconn story that has elite alumens. But she tore her ACL in 2022 and forced her to miss the whole season.

Bueckers were part of the only team in the Uconn story that lost a national title game before she suffered from the injury and they did not get out of the last four last year.

But on Sunday, she fell 17 points on the way to finally win it all.

Bueckers also have the UCONN record for most points scored in March Madness throughout a career, a brand that ranks third all the time.
