If Abdul Carter’s choice of jersey number was a batting average he would be in the Hall of Fame.
At least he can now build a Hall of Fame CV on a number that could go down in New York Giants Lore.
After being shut down to carry both Lawrence Taylor’s No. 56 and Phil Simms’ No. 11, Carter, the third total choice of draft, resides in No. 51.

Giants announced that Carter will carry the number to Rookie mini stamp (Jaxson Dart got No. 6 and Cam Tax Bo No. 44), but the number is subject to change.
Carter asked Taylor, perhaps the biggest gigantic and defensive player ever if he could carry his No. 56, which was retired by Giants in 1994. It was a hard no from LT himself.
Later Simms said He would allow carter to bear his No. 11, which was retired by Giants in 1995. Carter carried the number throughout his career in Penn State, an honorary emblem at school. It is given to a player that the university and the last representative feel worthy. The previous Nittany Lion to carry it before Carter was Micah Parsons who now wears it with Dallas Cowboys.
However, this request was ultimately shut down by Simms’ family after a long -standing, fiery debate among the members of the household.
After hearing the news, Carter Jokt That he would “be out there with just my last name on my jersey, no number.” But he will be at MiniCamp with a number that has probably never even been considered to be retired.

No. 51 was worn last season by Edge Rusher Azeez Ojulari, now with Philadelphia Eagles. It was first seen in a giant in 1946 by Chet Gladchuk.
The most notable giant to carry the number is Zak Deossie, a two-time Super Bowl champion Lang Snapper, who carried it from 2004 to 2017.
Last season, the team was unused Ray Flaherty’s # 1 for wide receives Malik Nabers, who carried # 9 through college. Flaherty’s number pension was the first in professional football history. Flaherty’s family gave Giants permission to wrongly the number of Nabers who carried it well. Nabers set like a rookie franchise record for most receptions in a season with 109.

The G-Men has 13 retired numbers for 14 players. (No. 14 is for Ward Cuff and Ya Tittle.) Warren Moon recently gave Cam Ward permission to carry No. 1 with Tennessee Titans.
