Giants Great Lawrence Taylor reveals what prevented him from quitting football before the Hall of Fame career began

Lawrence Taylor, one of the best defensive players in the NFL story, ends almost football in high school.

But his father wouldn’t let him.

Taylor, 66, talked about almost quitting football during a performance on Outkick’s “Maintenance with Tire.”

“I thought it was too much. As I said when I went out for football in my junior year, I would quit. And … my dad looked at me ‘you won’t stop,’ ‘remembered Taylor.

“And then when I started to get it a little, he told me, ‘Hi, you have to be better than the next man just to be corpse.’ So hear, I go after who’s ever in front of me, it’s the one I have to tackle.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer did a good job in his 13-year career dealing with the person ahead of him. Taylor spent his entire career with New York Giants and won two Super Bowls.

Taylor won the NFL MVP in 1986 and became one of only two defensive players in the NFL history to win the MVP.

In that season from 1986, Taylor had 20½ sacks. For Taylor, his goal was simple – find football.

“I think a lot of coaches or my coaches still let me play the game as I saw it. (People say) you have to get hit, you have to go there. Well, no. I had to go out here, But I’m trying to get to here.

The ten-time pro bowler had 142 sacks in 184 career games.
