Giants, jets -trainers respond to shooting at NFL HQ Building

Mass shooting by New York City Monday is hit close to home for sports fans.

Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference on Tuesday that the shooter identified as Shane Tamura seemed to have targeted the National Football League. The shooting took place in the same building as the league’s headquarters in Manhattan.

New York Giants and Jets play their home matches just miles away from the league offices, and both teams head coach offered compassion.

“You all saw what happened at 345 Park Ave. Tragic. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who were affected in this tragedy here with Giants,” Giant’s head coach Brian Daboll said at training camp on Tuesday.

Jet’s head coach Aaron Glenn added, “I wish it was a better morning. What happened yesterday at the league office, like an organization, our thoughts and prayers go out to all families. It’s always hard to hear things like that and really try to stay focused. But you have to because you have a job to do.

A New York Police Department spokesman confirmed to Pakinomist Digital that Tamura had mentioned the NFL in a handwritten “suicide note” in which he claimed he had CTE.

The National Football League Players’ Association (NFLPA) released a statement early Tuesday morning about the shooting that killed four people, including a NYPD officer.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that took place yesterday in New York City. 345 Park Avenue is part of our football family and we at the NFLPA expand our sincere condolences and support for the people working in this building and to the families of those who lost their lives,” NFLPA said. “We will also express our deep gratitude for the law enforcement and emergency staff who were responding to those who were affected.”

Adams said the shooter was trying to get to the NFL’s HQ but took the wrong elevator bank.

An NFL employee was “seriously wounded” in the shooting, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a memo to NFL employees obtained by Pakinomist Digital.

The shooter was found dead on the 33rd floor, where he also killed another woman from a self -inflicted gunshot wound. NYC -Politics Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Tamura had a history of mental health problems.
