Buzz around New York Giants was silent after a week 1 nightmare against the Washington commanders, and there may already be excitement between the head coach and a star player.

When the first quarter ended, Fox Broadcast Wide captured Malik Nabers and head coach Brian Daboll in a verbal quarrel as Giants’ violation sputtered to start the game.

Daboll seemed to turn to something he didn’t like from Nabers under the team’s former drive, and Nabers Buffed back in his direction. Later, as the team hugged himself to return to the field, Daboll approached his star recipient, but Nabers left him hanging when the coach offered a high-five.

It’s hard to know exactly what was said between Nabers and Daboll, but given the lack of goals and offensive success for Giants, it probably turned the frustration at the beginning of the 2025 campaign.

Giants was expected to be improved into a season where owner John Mara made it clear that he had to see progress in the win-loss record to feel comfortable with the regime moving on.

But New York looked like last season when Washington’s defense painted the offensive line and pressed the new quarterback Russell Wilson, who fought in his big blue debut. Wilson went 17 out of 37 in 168 yards and connected with Nabers of five of 12 goals in 71 yards.

Wan’dale Robinson picked up a few Key First Downs for New York and ended with six catches in 55 yards on eight goals.

A big problem for New York was their run games that fought through. Wilson led with 44 yards on eight carrier while running on Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary and Rookie Cam Tax Bo combined in 30 yards of 15 carrier.

With the running game not existing, the commanders went off on Giants’ offensive line, and Wilson was flusted everywhere.

Last season, Nabers turned out to be Quarterback-Proof, playing with Daniel Jones, Tommy Devito and Drew Lock while holding 1,204 yards on 109 catches with seven touchdowns.

With Wilson as the team’s new starter, Nabers is expected to be one of the league’s top recipients, but this was not the start he or the giants had in mind in their 21-6 loss Sunday.
