The best NBN 1000 plans have offered Australians the opportunity to experience lightning fast download speeds for a few years now. Recently, however, I have noticed some major changes across this speed level.
First, advertised typical evening speeds are steadily increasing against the figure Magic 1,000 Mbps. When I started monitoring NBN 1000 plans in September 2023, the average alleged download speed was only 515 Mbps.
Although this was considered fast at the time, the truth was ultimately far away from the theoretical maximum available at this level, making them difficult to recommend … especially when combined with the high costs.
Frop until today and the average download speed of an NBN 1000 plan is just over 810 Mbps. Talk about progress!
In addition, the number of providers offering an NBN 1000 plan has expanded (from 16 to 20), and perhaps most importantly, prices have come down. How much is an NBN 1000 plan decreased? In September ’23, the average costs were AU $ 140 P/M, but this figure is now just below AU $ 120 P/M. That’s a little over AU $ 20 saved each month or AU $ 240 a year.
These factors combined mean that there has never been a better time to sign up for a gigabit Internet plan.
We have said it many times in the past but it really pays to shop around
Of course, the best NBN plans are not all created equal. While the average cost of a gigabit NBN plan may have come down, the fact that the majority of providers charge more than this regularly.
However, you do not have to pay these high fees, nor should you, as there is unique value that is available right now from them like spintel, flip, buddy telco and even vodafone.
All four providers offer something for any type of user: Superfast download speeds, cheap prices, a good middle ground, extra perks such as prior access to concerts in Australia and in some cases free modems. Full information about their NBN 1000 plans is as follows:
