- Gigabyte has released Aorus RTX 5090 AI BOX External GPU, built for AI assignments and portable games
- It will contain Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 ports
- Pricing is not advertised yet
Nvidia does not brake with its RTX 5000 series lineup, with the RTX 5000 Super Series GPUs, which are joined to launch this fall, which certainly added the list of the best GPUs on the market -and now one of Team Green’s board partners has benefited from the Blackwell flagship GPU, with a new tool built to strengthen AI -OPPARAGE and portable games.
As reported by our friends at PC Gamer, Gigabyte has released the Aorus RTX 5090 external GPU, now called ‘AI Box’, targeted at creativity with over 3,000 AI tops. This can be used on laptops and other laptops (even handheld) via its Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 ports, which significantly increases the service and AI performance.
For PC players, this is undoubtedly excessive as an RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 portable GPU is more than enough to provide good benefit results across several titles; After previously reviewing the MSI vector A18 HX A9W and is currently testing an RTX 5070-powered MSI system, I can say with certainty that they are all you need for good performance on a game-laptop computer.
Now it is worth emphasizing that this is an egpu built to strengthen AI-intensive scenarios, and it has its own fluid setup inside a mini-chassis, which can make you make a double recording because it could easily pass as a mini-itx desktop build. Either way, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX trademark will always catch the eye of PC players -and this is an egpu you more than likely don’t need.
There is no price announced yet, but you can definitely expect this to cost more than the RTX 5090 Desktop discreet counterpart and other pre-built game PCs completely. Lower end external GPUs are already expensive, so it is only reasonable for prices to skyrocket when using the best GPU on the market.
Analysis: You would be better off buying a stationary rich or game -laptop computer instead
Unless you already own a Powerhouse game or professional laptop for creativity, or you have room to blow up, I will not suggest buying this. I’ve been curious about EGPUs for a while, specifically with how they would affect handheld games -pc performance, but certainly not with an RTX 5090.
I can see how this can be a good alternative to traveling with a stationary rich; The enclosure is essentially a mini-ITX case, so it is much more portable and appears to be less prone to damage when you get your suitcase dotted over conveyor belt. Then a small gamblable computer is the perfect answer to it and if you needed the RTX 5090’s AI power, you could buy a desktoprigg.
A good example would be Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 [2025] I tested with his slim 14-inch screen and lightweight building, powered by RTX 5070 Ti. It’s great for games and AI-intensive tasks, and at a price of £ 2,699 / AU $ 4,999 it will almost certainly be cheaper than Gigabyte’s new AI box.
There are plenty of ways to get the best out of AI and games via Nvidia’s Blackwell lineup, but I don’t think the Aorus RTX 5090 AI box is one of them -at least considering what I expect it to cost.
