A lawsuit in the country’s financial hub Friday Friday, Senate President Yusuf Raza Gilani and others accused in all cases filed under PML -N’s government in 2013 in connection with a trade development authority in Pakistan (TDAP) scandal.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had a total of 26 cases filed against Gilani – which served as the country’s prime minister between 2008 and 2012 – to allegedly taken RS5 million in subsidies illegally during a TDAP program. Gilani had been exposed to the cases in the last 12 years.
The federal anti-corruption court in Karachi acquitted the PPP leader in three TDAP cases on March 8, 2025 and nine TDAP cases last week on July 11. The judge announced his verdict to free Gilani and others in the remaining 14 cases Friday.
During the case participating by the chairman of the Senate, the Presidenting Judge noted that he had reviewed each case separately, all parties heard thoroughly and made the decisions to acquire the defendants on the basis of files received from High Court.
In a speech with the media after the hearing, Gilani’s advice Farooq H naek said all these cases were based on complaints from a specific individual. He said former Gilani was also declared an absconde even after securing bail in 10 cases.
Naek said the court had now handed over full justice by rejecting all claims and acquiring Gilani. He thanked the judge and called the decision a great legal victory against false accusations.
When he spoke to the occasion, Yusuf Raza Gilani declared that the claims were politically motivated and false, but he was grateful to God for being completely acquitted by all cases.
He appreciated the legal expertise of his lawyer Farooq H naek and emphasized the urgent need for legislation to ensure that pending cases are resolved and not left hanging indefinitely.
