The issue of appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the Senate took a new turn on Saturday when a PTI delegation met Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani and demanded an immediate decision in the matter.
According to sources, the PTI delegation, led by lawyer Ali Zafar, emphasized that the appointment of the opposition leader should not be delayed further as it was a legitimate parliamentary right of the opposition.
“We have already submitted the required signatures … the Leader of the Opposition must now be notified,” PTI members reportedly told the Senate chairman.
Barrister Ali Zafar said the delay in the appointment was a breach of the opposition’s privilege. “The right of the opposition is being undermined,” he said.
