Islamabad:
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) alarm for northern Pakistan, who warned of an increased risk of flooding in glacier regions in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa due to rising temperatures and a nearing weather system.
According to PMD’s research and development department, persistently high temperatures accelerate snow and glacier melting, increasing the likelihood of glof and flash flood events in vulnerable valleys and the surrounding areas of the current and coming weeks.
