‘Gol gappa’ in hot water over overseas job fidus

Soldier Bazaar police have arrested Munir Mehdi, alias Gol Gappa, a refugee who is in demand in several fraud cases involving deception of unsuspecting citizens with false promises of overseas employment.

According to Sho PS soldier Bazaar Waqar Azeem, Mehdi had coincided in several cases registered against him in Soldier Bazaar, Firozabad and Baloch Colony Police Stations. He allegedly scammed millions of rupees from young people who are eager to secure jobs abroad and offer them fabricated opportunities in Qatar, Dubai, Australia, Canada and the United States.

Police revealed that Mehdi and his gangs operated all over the city and targeted unsuspecting victims with dreams of a better future. He would require advance payments ranging from RS1.5 million to RS3 million from each victim, in return for false job placements.

To appear credible, he signed false agreements on fake stamp papers and issued counterfeit controls.

When he received the payments, Mehdi would go in stored for months and left his victims stranded. Over the past two years, countless complaints have been filed against him, with several victims approaching law enforcement for justice. Sources show that Mehdi’s arrest can lead to crucial revelations about his network and other accomplices. Police suspect his gangs remain active in Karachi and continue to lure new victims.
