Google Cloud has announced a major partnership with the British government that will help the country free itself of aging technology systems.
Advertised on the company’s Google Cloud Summit London, the deal will seem to help the British government update a number of Legacy Tech, some of which are decades old, to lock up to $ 45 billion in efficiency savings.
The partnership seems to modernize commonly used services from the NHS together with the local council’s tools covering everything from bin collection to tax returns.
So long “ball and chain”
When he spoke at the summit, technology secretary Peter Kyle noted that the agreement will appear to give a major upgrade across the public sector in the UK, where more than one in four systems is estimated to run on Legacy Tech. This jumps to as high as 70% in some police forces and NHS trusts, sometimes on contracts signed decades ago.
He noticed how the technology used in some areas is decades old, leaving these organizations at risk of cyberattack or power breaks, and meant to mean workers lack efficiency and productivity gains offered by recent tech.
Google Cloud hopes its help will help government agencies to trench these “ball and chain” technical contracts, where providers have often made it too difficult to transfer data to modern systems, with some companies that wander the prices while the taxpayer is locked in contracts.
“With more practical support, I can’t wait to see what our two teams are delivering together,” Kyle added.
Looking forward, Google Cloud will also help the British government explore the use of technology as a quantum calculation in the public sector as well as explore the development of a single platform to monitor and keep the public sector secure against the latest cyber security threats.

Google Cloud will also help increase workers in the British government, with a new training program seeing 100,000 officials, get extra help with AI and other new technology by 2030.
Elsewhere, Google Cloud runs a 12-week equity-free accelerator program for seeds for Serie AI-Startups based in the UK, in partnership with Tech London Attorneys.
This follows benefits announced earlier this year as part of the “Gemini for the UK” initiative, with Google Cloud, which delivers up to £ 280,000 in Skykredites for support-based UK-based AI-Startups.
The company says that over 60% of Genai UK startups since 2023 are Google Cloud customers, and it is looking to help some of these companies even more and secure seats for four Top UK AI-Startups on the European-covering Google for Startup’s accelerator that will participate in 15 Top AI-Startups across Europe to get Google Expertes to speed up the growth.
