Google has become the latest on a growing list of tech companies offering heavily reduced services to the US government, this time for its cloud services.
As reported by Financial timesThe agreement, which could be completed within a few weeks, reflects a growing trend across the sector, with tech companies, all of which offer to win major government contracts with attractive discounts.
The trend comes in response to President Trump’s efforts to centralize public spending – by buying in Bulk, Trump was apparently hoping to secure greater discounts, and that is exactly the answer he has seen.
The US Government Unlocking the Big Google Cloud discounts
Although Google and General Services Administration (GSA) has not yet shown any details regarding the reported discounts, we know that other technology companies have also shared large discounts recently.
This includes Oracle, which offers the US government a 75% discount on license -based software and “significant” discounts on other cloud services.
Since Oracle and Google both offer discounts on cloud services and they are likely to stay with others, it is unclear whether the White House is set to choose a supplier or whether it spreads services across different operators.
Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services are also expected to offer comparable discounts to maintain competition against their hyperscaler rivals.
Although Google’s latest discounts have not been confirmed, the company offered a 71% discount on business apps earlier in 2025, which was set to save the US government up to $ 2 billion.
