- 200 Google Global Business Unit Workers becomes superfluous
- It’s the company’s third reported round of redundancies in 2025 so far
- Google referred earlier to having fewer layers of staff
Google has revealed yet another reduction of employees affecting about 200 workers in its global business unit (via Pakinomist).
The workers come from a department responsible for sales and partnerships, with the layoffs, part of a broader cost-saving feature with Google that shifts its focus to data centers and AI-A real signs of times.
In a statement, Google said the changes would “create greater cooperation and expand our ability to serve our customers quickly and effectively.”
Google puts even more workers
It is the latest in a series of messages about job cuts at Google after the company recently dismissed hundreds of workers across its pixel and Android departments, with its HR department also affected earlier in February 2025.
It is still not a patch on Google’s widespread redundancies in January 2023, when 12,000 workers were sent home – approx. 6% of its global workforce.
From December 2024, Google had just over 183,000 workers, so while the reduction of 200 global business unit workers is not significant in terms of percentage, it is still very much an unwelcome decision for all those affected.
Google is also not the only company that makes regular minor adjustments. Meta recently dismissed about 100 employees in his reality Lab’s unit, and a significant 3,600 (5%) earlier in February, when CEO Mark Zuckerberg told workers to prepare for an “intense year.”
Microsoft has made two minor adjustments in this calendar year (via redundancies.fyi), while Amazon and Apple have also conducted some revisions.
When we turned to Google for a comment, the last time the dismissed workers, a company spokesman told us: “Our teams have continued to make changes to function more efficiently, remove layers and ensure that they are created for long -term success.”
