- Google has stopped selling Chromecast with Google TV
- The gadget debuted in September 2020
- An upgrade is available in the form of Google TV -streamer
Four and a half years after making debuted, Chromecast with Google TV is no longer sold by Google-to participate in products such as Google Daydream and Nexus Q (do you remember it?) In the Hardware section on Google Graveyard.
The disappearance of gadget from the official Google store was noted by 9to5Google and others, where both the 4K and HD versions were no longer available. The HD model was launched in 2022, two years after the original.
While you may still be able to chase one through third-party retailers, the future is very much that Google TV streamer is revealed in August 2024. It is now the default Google TV device, yours for $ 99 / £ 99 / AU $ 159.
However, as a long time uses Chromecast with Google TV (4K edition), however, there is no way I have to exchange the old device for the new one right now. In fact, I would probably keep my current streaming dongle until it stops working, which can still be several years free at this time.
What do chromecast do with Google TV Special
Chromecast with Google TV was a significant upgrade to traditional chromecasts when it debuted. Before it arrived, Chromecasting was fast and light enough, but everything had to be checked on a phone, tablet or laptop.
With Chromecast with Google TV, you have a chunky little remote control – even more straightforward to use with its tactile, physical buttons and roller pad. There is also storage on board and a software interface, making it a truly independent device.
Google TV streamer is by no means voluminous, but it needs a flat surface to sit on while my chromecast with Google TV just hangs out of an HDMI port. The new gadget is also more expensive and packages in more storage that I will never use.
Both the old and new streaming devices use Google TV – one of the best and most versatile TV Software Platforms – so there is no upgrade there. In an ideal world, I would love a Chromecast with Google TV, 2025 -edition (if anyone from Google is reading) but my current streaming gadget continues to do a good job.
