Google’s Gemini for home event is just around the corner, and the company gives the Google Home app a much-needed makeover to coincide with the announcement of its new range of smart home units.
Google has shared details about the new features, it’s just rolled out in the latest app update (version 3.40) that we will dive below. The company is also ready to roll out an even bigger update (version 3.41), but details of this first arrive before the Gemini day for home event on October 1st.
In addition to Google Homes new features, the app has also received bug fixes to solve layout problems when creating devices as well as trouble accessibility.
Alongside Google Homes Next Big Update, we expect the highly expected arrival of Gemini features for Smart Home Hardware. There is also the question of new Google Nest devices that we have been waiting for years, especially the rumored new Google Home speaker, which is the tip of having a large 360 audio upgrade.
As mentioned, everyone will be revealed during Google’s Gemini for homemade event on October 1st, so right now we can only venture a guess on what we expect to be announced. But what we can share with you is the handful of new features of Google Homes recent update and they are available for you to try now.
1. Automation Editor
One of the most notable changes in the Google Home update is its new automation editor that upgrades the interface and introduces ‘relationship’ for the first time. You can now add conditions to automations such as weekdays, device status and presence, making your automations “more personal and smarter than ever” according to Google.
2. New water controls and thermostat functions
Google has upgraded support to older Nest Thermostat models by adding hot water controls and planning features for the first time. Its ECO controls and outdoor temperature features have also been improved, but these features are only available to UK and EU users.
3. Event filters
Users can now filter events directly from a camera event view by filtering event types including person, vehicle and others. While this is a new addition, the possibility of filtering events in your activity tab is still there.
4. Suggested favorites
Has multiple devices logged in to your Google Home app? The latest update gives you easier quick access to your most used devices. If you have no ‘favorites’ marked, you can find suggested devices in the Favorites tab that can be edited at any time.
