- Pixel -Phones could soon support themes, according to new code
- It lets customizations be used faster
- The feature may arrive with Android 16
After showing the big update on Google I/O 2025 earlier this month, Google is ready to launch Android 16 in the coming days, at least in terms of pixel phones -and it seems that Pixel devices are also in line for a major upgrade of customization.
The team on Android Authority has seen proof of a pixel theme hidden in the code for the latest Android 16 beta. While the feature has not gone live yet, it looks like it’s close to completion.
Many other Android hand kits, including the best Samsung Galaxy phones, already offering themes: They let you group wallpaper, color schedules and icon packages together in a single bundle and you can then apply them with a single tap.
It seems that themes would be available through the current wallpaper and lock screen settings on pixel phones, available via Wallpaper and style Section in Settings. It would also be quite a prominent option based on the existing code.
Coming soon?
It is not clear whether you will be able to see a gallery with themes provided by Google and maybe other users, as well as create your own adjustment combinations. On Samsung phones there is a large gallery with theme opportunities to choose from.
Another question we have is whether this feature will be ready in time for the official, stable Android 16 release: The rumor is that we may see that we are coming on Tuesday, June 3, though it has not yet been confirmed.
It is possible that Google will wait for a later Android 16 release before pushing out themes and making them available to pixeleers. Other Android phone manufacturers will then be able to use (or not use) Google’s theme code as they find appropriate.
Upcoming changes we know about in Android 16 includes better battery health surveillance (for newer pixels), improved security features and a renewed, more modern look to the interface called Material 3 Expressive.
