- The figures show Google’s search dominance remain largely undisputed, 24 times greater than its closest rival
- Microsoft’s AI-driven search gets traction but global market change remains minimal
- Elsewhere, confusion plays.
Google has dominated search this year and generated the vast majority of organic traffic around the world – but while its grip remains firm, new data suggests that cracks are being formed.
A new Seranking Report, which crown 2024’s top search engine, claims that Google saw a fall of 0.91% in its global market share – but it still drives almost 95% of all organic search traffic and no other platform is getting close.
Bing, the second largest search engine, also saw an increase of 0.17%, which brought its total share to only 3.51%, while Duckduckgo, Yahoo and other search tools remain below 1%.
AI -Integration threat?
The report also reveals AI-driven platforms such as chatgpt and confusion triggered interest in 2024, especially in the latter half of the year. Chatgpt’s referral traffic increased from insignificant levels to 0.09% by December, while confusion experienced stable but slower growth and reached 0.02%.
These numbers suggest that AI-run search platforms win space, but at nowhere near the Google scale. Even if the AI search adoptions accelerate, it would take years before it could challenge the traditional model significantly.
Microsoft’s Bing has also integrated AI tools into its search experience in the hope of dragging users away from Google. However, its step -by -step growth shows that AI alone is not enough to interfere with established habits.
While others are tagging AI to fight against Google, the tech giant does not fold its arms. It has rolled AI-powered features such as AI listings and Gemini 2.0, which has helped maintain its edge.
These progress combined with its enormous infrastructure and user confidence ensures that Google remains the go-to-search engine in the foreseeable future.
Although AI-Generated Answers provide a new way to access information, they do not fully replace traditional search. Currently, Google does not remain shaken 24 times the size of his closest rival.
