- A new material 3 expressively redesign comes to Android
- Google has leaked some of the updates in advance
- We can expect an official disclosure at Google I/O later this month
Android gets a fresh layer of paint in the near future, and the team at Google is apparently so excited about the visual overhaul that it accidentally leaked the changes in advance, giving us all a sneak preview of what’s coming.
As discovered by 9TO5GOOGLE, the now -plated blog post outlined the upcoming “Material 3 Expressive” changes that it was “the most examined update to Google’s design system” ever used for the software.
Google says the new look “makes you feel something”, inspiring feelings, communicate feature and help you reach your goals even these goals just make sure your phone alarm wakes you up on time, or you can connect to the Wi-Fi office quickly.
Colors and shapes have been renewed, with important actions and navigation options that are now better highlighted. There are several floating elements and more curves, and this new leak is based on some of the details we saw at the beginning of the month.
Android for the people
Google is eager to emphasize that a lot of research has gone into Android’s new look, with commitment statistics that back up the changes and show how they improve ease of use and user satisfaction – evidence that they “connect with people at an emotional level”.
A floating toolbar that emerges in certain scenarios is one of the adjustments we can look forward to, while Google has also done work to improve consistency and to make sure related things are better grouped on screen.
It seems to be the biggest design overhaul for Android as material design was introduced more than a decade ago, although telephone manufacturers like Samsung and nothing want their own spin on this new approach.
You can see some of the visual updates on 9to5Google, while Google’s own blog post has been preserved on the Wayback machine. This will be officially very soon when the Google I/O 2025 exhibition window is underway on Tuesday, May 20.
