- Hidden code points to another Gemini and Google Maps Integration
- You can ask Gemini about places on the map
- There is no official word about when the feature actually goes live
We’ve seen a smash of Gemini AI features added to Google Maps so far, and it looks like another integration is on the way: a pop-up opportunity to ask the AI model about any place you look at a Short.
The feature is not live yet, but code for it was discovered by Android Authority in the latest version of Google Maps for Android. If you call Gemini with a place selected on Google Maps you see a Ask about place Button above the standard search box.
Press the button and the location reference is added to your Gemini search – so you can ask AI what type of place it is, how to drive there, whether suitable for families, what its history is, or something else you like.
It’s the latest in a series of contextual ‘chips’ that are added to the Gemini assistant trying to predict what to look for – you can see a chip show Ask about the screen or Ask about videoFor example, depending on what you look at.
Gemini’s quick expansion

There is no official word about when this extra Google Maps feature may go live, but given the code is in place, it should not take too long to appear. It’s the latest example of Gemini getting his hooks deeper into apps from Google and other developers.
In recent months we have seen updates that will allow Google Gemini to take more control over your smart home, see what’s on your phone screen, and pour your messages in Google Chat so you don’t have to read through each only.
Updates also appear across apps for photos, music, phone calls and weather, with extensions connecting AI bot in apps like Spotify and WhatsApp. It looks like the influence and range of Gemini will grow and grow.
It all happens while the difficult question of AI-Hallucinations is still a problem: Let’s hope that Gemini doesn’t give users any false information about tourist hot spots, famous landmarks or local coffee shops (maybe double control the details, just to be sure).
