- Code found in a recent Google -Messages Beta suggests a new message information menu
- The new user interface will include recipient names and profile pictures as well as reading receipts in group chats
- We are not sure if the new menu will actually be released
If you have ever sent a message in a group chat in the hope that a particular person will see it, or just would be really sure that a direct message had been received, the next Google Message Update will be welcome.
Code found in an upcoming version of Google Messages enables a new user interface for the Message Details menu that goes far deeper than the basic overview found in the current Build of Google’s first -party message app.
It is, according to Android Authority, that revealed the new Menulayout in a recent Google Message Beta Dearing – though there is no assurance that these features will make it full release yet.
The new detailed UI adds the opportunity to see a recipient’s view name and profile picture, and check which individual users have read a message sent to a group chat. The new menu also allows you to see the original message when you see an answer and contact recipients directly from the new menu.
Currently, a long press opens on a sent message a small pop-up menu describing the time and date when a message was sent and received, its priority status and telephone numbers for the sender and the recipient.
Of crucial importance, the current message information does not indicate whether the recipient is actually reading the message, only that it was successfully delivered to their phone.
This is not so much of a problem in direct messages where you can trust to read receipts, but in group chats it may be more difficult to measure what proportion of chat members have read your latest message – Read receipts typically only trigger when whole Chat has done it.
Google Messages is one of the world’s most popular Messaging apps, and is the Standard Messaging app on some of the best Android phones, from the Google Pixel 9 series to the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup.
As we have reported in the past, Google has very much updated Google messages, recently added new Chat Deselation features and the opportunity to send you a message over RCS. What do you think of these new message details tools? Are they useful, or are we risking knowing too much? Tell us that in the comments below.
