- A new ‘unsubscribe’ button has been viewed in Google -Messages
- This gives you an easy way to unsubscribe from automated messages
- You can also use it to report spam
If you find yourself flooded with unwanted messages from companies or other spam, a new Google Message Tool could come along well.
Android Authority has seen that a new option has begun to appear at the bottom of some messages and says “Unsubscribe to stop receiving messages.” Tap this and you will have options for options that ask why you want to unsubscribe, with the choices “Not Sign Up”, “Too Many Messages”, “No longer interested”, “Spam” or “Other”.
If you select any of the first three, the message “Stop” will be sent automatically, while if you choose “Other”, there is a box where you can fill in more details before sending the “stop” message and if you select “Spam” you also have the option of reporting the sender.
Once you have completed the unsubscribe process, the text “Unsubscribe request sent” Under the “Stop” message, and a “Start” button will be visible in the bottom right, which you can use to recreate to automated texts from the sender.
Simply send ‘stop’
So it’s a pretty extensive system, but since most of the time it really does is send the word “stop”, it’s not necessarily faster than writing it out yourself. The main point seems to be making it easier for people to unsubscribe when they are not aware that they can do it.
This feature is rolling out, so if you don’t have it yet, keep an eye on because you are likely to do it soon – even if it is currently only rolled out to users in the US, UK, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Mexico and Spain.
Also note that this feature only works with Google messages, so if you are using another messaging app, continue to unsubscribe from the old-fashioned way.
