- Code in Google TV Home app describes sleepmen and messages
- Android TV already has a sleep hour but it’s not good or easy to find
- It’s in early stages so don’t expect it immediately
If you have ever fallen asleep during a TV show that is only rude aroused by an auto-playing trailer or to realize that you have missed some of the episodes, the idea of a decent sleeping hour on Google TV may be quite interesting. Well here is some good news: It looks like Google is working on exactly that.
The news comes via Android Authority, which likes nothing but diving into the beta code to see what useful information it may reveal. And this time it is uncovered strict and references to Sleep Timers in the Google TV Home app, which is the main interface of Google TV.
What to expect from sleepmen in Google TV
The code in the Google app suggests that Sleep Timer will do more than the basics currently on Android TV, which does not support the break and resume features. And the code also indicates that there will be hours of warnings at different intervals – “X minutes until the TV turns off” – and possibly the opportunity to override the timer by asking for a little more time.
The latter feature is a bit mysterious because one of the code lines describes a “sleep_timer_45_second_notification_action”. It’s a strange choice of time – as Android Authority says, why not do it in one minute?
At the moment, this is just clues rather than actual work functions, but they are nevertheless an encouraging sign: Currently creating (or not creating) their own timers, while having the feature baked in the central operating system would mean a consistent experience across the entire Google TV platform.
It should also make the feature much easier to find, because where companies offer an Android Sleep Timer, they tend to bury it in the darkest corners of the setting menu.
