Google is now showing ads in chatbot conversations via its Search Network Adsense, which marks a shift in its digital advertising strategy as generative AI becomes not only more common but increasingly used instead of traditional search engine tools.
Previously, ads were shown in the search results on other sites, but Google added them to conversations with chatbots run by AI -Startups earlier in 2025 (via Bloomberg).
The rolling comes after the tech giant conducted tests last year, and earlier this year with AI -Search apps such as IASK and LINER.

Google’s advertising business has been an incredibly lucrative area of California’s company, which maintains a 90% share of the global search market (via statcounter).
But with the emergence of rival AI chatbots like Openai’s Chatgpt, consumers are now able to get information more brief and faster and put Google’s business under threat and therefore its ADS network.
A spokesman for the company has confirmed: “AdSense for search is available on sites that want to show relevant ads in their conversation AI experiences.”
Google’s collaboration with Startups is a strategic step to remain profitable, even if the search market, as we know it, shrinks, but it has not gone unnoticed.
Two US Senators recently asked Google about his partnership with anthropic and expressed concern about competition in the sector. Microsoft’s agreement with Openai was also under fire.
The Department of Justice also recently noted a monopoly in the search engine market helps its AI strategy and that its use of AI further improves its search market monopoly.
Earlier in April 2025, an American judge also violated that Google violated antitrust laws by “intentionally acquiring and maintaining monopoly power” in the market for advertising technology. Although found guilty, a further consultation is needed to determine potential remedies.
