Gotbit -founder Aleksei Andriunin pleads guilty to wire fraud, market manipulation

Gotbit founder Aleksei Andriunin entered into a plea for an agreement with US prosecutors on Wednesday, who will see him earning a maximum of 24 months behind pillars for his role in what prosecutors described as a “broad conspiracy” to manipulate token prices for paying clients.

Andriunin, a 26-year-old Russian citizen, was handed over to the United States from Portugal last month and accused of two censuses of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit market manipulation and wire fraud charges that have a maximum total sentence of 25 years in prison. In return for a reduced verdict on, Andriunin pleaded guilty to all three counts. He also accepted to perish about $ 23 million in StableCecoins tied to his crimes. The government is not seeking any other fine.

In their indictment last October, prosecutors claimed that Gotbit was basically a market manipulator for rent offering laundry services to pay crypto projects that would artificially inflate the volume and price of their tokens.

Andriunin’s guilty plea is not entirely surprising: he was never cooy over Gotbit’s business activities. In a 2019 interview with Coindesk, Andriunin-Herinder admitted a 20-year-old college Sophomore at Moscow State University-that his business was “not quite ethical” and detailed how he used bot trading to create enough artificial trading volume for a project to be performed at Coinmarketcap.

Gotbit is not the only market manufacturer that offers these services. At the same time that Andriunin and his company were indicted with two other employees, US prosecutors accused a handful of other companies, including CLS Global, Mytrade and Zmquant, as well as several of the companies’ employees and promoters, with the same to offer manipulation services to the rent.

Andriunin’s penalty date has not yet been determined.
