QUETTA:
The Balochistan government has ordered a transparent inquiry into the tragic incident in Zehri, ensuring strict action against those responsible.
According to reports, armed gunmen on Wednesday morning launched a daring attack on the main bazaar in Tehsil Zehri, Khuzdar district and set fire to several government buildings, including a Levies Force station, Nadra and municipal committee offices and a bank after taking control of the area.
Officials reported that approximately 80 militants entered the area at around 23.00 from the nearby mountains. They stationed armed men around the bazaar and other important places in the tehsil headquarters of Zehri, set up checkposts around the bazaar and established pickets in the mountains to block any security force intervention.
The militants stormed the Levies station, took the staff hostage, looted records and set the building on fire, causing damage to the structure, furniture and other items inside.
Later, the gunmen attacked a private bank branch, held the staff hostage and looted over Rs 90 million from the guard room, as reported by bank officials in Quetta.
Government ministers including Sardar Abdul Rahman Khan, Mir Shoaib Nowsherwani, Dr. Ruba Buledi and other assembly members strongly condemned the incident. They stated that the government is fully committed to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that they face legal consequences.
