Karachi:
The Sindh Assembly continued the general discussion about the provincial budget for the coming fiscal year Friday. Both members of the assembly and provincial ministers participated in the debate and informed the house about the performance of their respective departments and future plans.
During the session, led by Vice President Anthony Naveed, concerns were raised about the restrictions on access to acting governor of the Governor House.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, informed the house that speaker Awais Qadir Shah, who has been working for 22 days, was not allowed to enter the Governor House or perform his duties.
Lanjhar revealed that Governor Kamran Tessori had sealed offices and taken the keys to Saudi Arabia, prompting the speaker to turn to the court that ordered offices to be opened again. Lanjar, who read the court in the assembly, noted sarcastically that although Tessori claims to open the Governor House to the public, it is closed to the provincial governor.
The Minister appealed to the Minister of Chief to intervene against those responsible in accordance with the court orders.
The former speaks Agha Siraj Durrani criticized Tessori for limiting the acting governor from performing his tasks. Durrani declared that the speaker’s authority was respected and demanded that Tessori follow the Constitution and apologize for the Sindh assembly.
Senior parliamentarian Nisar Ahmed Khoro also condemned the Government’s actions and maintained that the country and the assembly are running according to the Constitution. He questioned the governor’s authority over the Governor’s House and called it a symbol of occupation rather than governance.
He questioned the Governor’s motives and suggested that the Governor’s House is not a personal property but a public institution. Khoro demanded that a decision be adopted in the SINDH assembly to tackle this problem.
MQM-P MPA Taha Ahmed claimed that the incident involving the acting governor was the result of a misunderstanding and lack of communication. He said the party respects the acting governor’s office and believes the issue should not be politicized.
He expressed pride in being part of society that appreciates its heritage and history. In the same session, Minister Ali Hassan Zardari sheds light on the government’s efforts on infrastructure development, announcing 48 new schemes in the upcoming budget.
