Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has administered ED to 25 members of the provincial assembly on reserved seats for women and minorities following an intervention from Peshawar High Court (PHC). The eeden who took the ceremony was held at Governor House in Peshawar on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, a scheduled assembly session for the administration of ED was disturbed when Quorum was challenged shortly after the procedure began. As a result, Babar Saleem Swati session exposed speaks until July 24 at. 14.00.

Opposition parties subsequently approached Peshawar High Court (PHC) to ensure the swearing of the newly elected legislators. In response, the court imposed the provincial governor to administer oath instead of the assembly speaker.

The newly sworn legislators include seven women and two minority members from Jamati Nynda-E-Islam (Jui), seven women and a minority member of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), four women and a minority member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), two women from Awami National Party (AP) Party (PPP), two women from Awami National Party (ANP) parliamentarians (PTI-P).

The intervention of the court is expected to facilitate the ongoing tensions over the delay in oath, a question that had touched concern about the constitutional process and the representation of the provincial legislature.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the obstacle to the ED tag of elected lawmakers and called it a violation of constitutional rights and a “shameful act.”

In a statement issued after the administration of ED to 25 members elected in reserved seats, Governor criticized Kundi Provincial Government, led by Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), for what he described as repeated attempts to undermine the democratic process.

“To prevent elected representatives from taking oaths is shameful. It is their constitutional right and every obstacle in this process is deeply regrettable,” Kundi said.

He thanked PHC for having permission for him to complete the severe ring ceremony and confirmed his commitment to protecting democratic values.

“We will not allow the holiness of democracy to be violated. PTI has exposed itself by interfering in a constitutional obligation,” he added.

Following the directives of the PHC, the Election Commission in Pakistan (ECP) has announced that the election in the Senate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will now begin at 1 p.m. 11:00 instead of 09:00.

In a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter), the ECP said, “The Election Commission hereby requires that voting should begin at 11:00 (instead of 9:00 am) to the completion of the Senate choice against seven general seats, two female seats and two seats for technocrats, including disadvantage, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa -Provin, July 20, 2025. “
