Govt calls for crashes on ‘Digital Terrorism’

On Friday, the government called on the social media companies to immediately remove terror content from their platforms using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emphasize global cooperation against digital terrorism, including data sharing. By tackling a joint press conference in Islamabad with Prime Minister of Loved Attorney Aqeel Malik, Prime Minister of Internal Talal Chaudhry emphasized that the removal of terrorist content from social media did not intend to dampen freedom of speech, but to build a wall against the threat.

"I would like to request social media operators and platforms to collaborate with us on the blockade and the removal of accounts, take measures to stop mirror accounts and share information about account owners driving these accounts," Said Chaudhry. Earlier this week, Chaudhry had highlighted how a terrorist group used WhatsApp channels to "convey hateful content and harmful tales". He told the common press that 2,417 complaints related to terrorism on social media were considered by the relevant authorities.

"Pakistan is a bulwark against terrorism. We have discovered hundreds of social media accounts associated with terrorism. Outfits like TTP, IS-K, BLA and BLF spread propaganda and recruit youth through social media," he said. In the apartment, Barrister Aqeel said that terrorism and propaganda were criminal offenses under the law on the prevention of electronic crimes (PECA). "Pakistan has required closure of terror accounts, automatic blocking and access to data from social media platforms," he said.
