Govt comes under attack in NA to ignore the Agri sector

Islamabad:

Legislators from the Treasury and opposition benches on Thursday greeted improved financial indicators and emphasized the need for Bipartisan efforts to maintain economic progress and promote inclusive growth.

Raja Qamar-Ul-Islam of the Pakistani Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) resumed the budget debate, praising the budget as historically and hailing the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in sending a permanent message to India. He expressed confidence that the budget 2025-26 would pave the way for sustainable economic growth in the country.

Amir Dogar from Sunni Intehad Council (SIC) criticized the government for overlooking the agricultural sector and called to raise the minimum wage to RS 50,000.

Atif Khan from SIC criticized the budget and stressed relief measures for the poor community segment.

Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) legislature Shagufta Jumani appreciated the government for having awarded significant funds for Benazir Income Support Program (Bisp).

She also called on the government to allocate dedicated funds to polio extinction and emphasized the importance of sustained public health efforts.

Rana Hayat suggested the establishment of a special house committee to focus on the problems facing farmers, an important segment of the economy.

MNA -usama Ahmed Mela, who emphasized the critical role of agriculture in national development, called on the government to provide incentives to farmers, including subsidies for fertilizers, pesticide and wider agricultural reforms.

He also suggested a review of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) authority that indicates concern for its administrative reach.
