Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed the government’s obligation to equip Pakistan’s youth with modern digital skills and says all possible support is provided to increase their technological expertise.

He made these comments, while he was chairman of a Lahore review meeting on Sunday regarding an initiative to educate 300,000 young people in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in collaboration with Huawei Technologies. Representatives from Huawei also attended the session.

The meeting assessed the progress of agreements signed with Huawei in China last year and discussed strategies to expand training in digital skills throughout the country.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that youth play a crucial role in driving technological advances, adding that ICT training program would not only improve it but also create employment opportunities.

During the initiative, Huawei will educate Pakistani youth in artificial intelligence, cyber security, cloud computing and other advanced technologies. So far, 20,315 students have completed education during the program.

Officials informed the Prime Minister that an ICT training portal will be launched to give online learning access to participants. Sharif instructed authorities to ensure a quick implementation of the initiative and make the portal very accessible.

He also instructed the program to be expanded to all provinces, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to maximize its reach.

Huawei representatives confirmed their obligation to launch advanced training programs in Pakistan and talented local master trainers to educate young people at the grassroots level.
