Govt in conversations with IMF to tackle concerns

The Ministry of Energy and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission is currently in negotiations to tackle the global lender’s concerns about the government’s solar policy.

According to sources, the government strives for efforts to resolve the IMF’s reservations related to the policy.

Sources revealed that officials from Power Division and Petroleum Division will separately inform the IMF on different questions. The Secretary of Power Division, Petroleum Division and Finance Secretary will be present during briefing, reported Express News.

The Power Division will focus on the performance of discos (distribution companies), circular debt and the privatization process.

The briefing will also cover strategies to reduce line loss, improve electricity bill collections and slow down electricity theft, reported Express News.

Progress with privatization of three discos and identification of assets will also be highlighted. Efforts will be made to tackle IMF concerns regarding the government’s solar policy.

In addition, sources confirmed that the government will discuss plans to reduce electricity star riffs by Rs 8 to 10 per year. Unit and get officials’ confidence in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

During the petroleum division meeting, de-regulation in the oil and gas sector will be discussed together with plans to tackle the 3 trillion rupial circular debt in the gas sector.
